Cactus Needles Knitting Guild
Meeting Minutes 9/8/2008

•    The meeting was called to order at 6:30pm
•    Mary greeted the membership, and welcomed returning members, new members and guests
     •    Cindy Adams, rejoined
     •    Joan Robbings, rejoined
     •    Dawn Goetz, new member
     •    Kay McCarty, guest of Bev Walker
     •    Maureen Donahue, guest of Velvet Dishon
     o    there is a total of 39 members paid so far this year
•    The program of Spinning 101, presented by Terri and Fred from Tempe Yarn and Fiber was commenced. 
      o    Terry and Fred generously donated their $50.00 program fee to Project Linus
      o    At TYF if you take a spinning class you may use the shops spinning wheels free of charge
•    Minutes were posted on-line, except for some misspelling of names; the minutes were passed as posted.
•    Francine Ebersman conducted the altruistic update
      o     Scarves for WWII distribution will be mailed after the October Guild meeting
      o    Yarn and pattern for a Project Linus squares blanket were distributed
      o    Members who are interested in the next “mystery” scarf project need to purchase Delft Blue and White Red Heart Super save yarn, 1 skein each color, the project will be reviled at October’s meeting
      o    Donna, Velvet and Lesley won the drawing for turned in projects
•    Bev Walker spoke regarding Valley Events
      o    Knit Happens, will have a Trunk Show on 9/27
      o    TYF will be starting their blanket knit along
      o    Phoenix Knits is open from 10 – 6pm Monday – Friday and 10-4 on Saturdays
      o    Jessica Knits is open from 11-4pm Wednesday – Sunday
      o    Fiber Factory is having a 20% off sale on Utopia
      o    Purl in The Pines is opening in Flagstaff
      o    The passport project is currently on hold
•    Old Business
      o    People are still needed to sign up to host Knit-Togethers
•    New Business
      o    Casa Grand has a knitting group that wants to learn how to knit socks
      o    Francine has been in contact with the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMOCA) regarding the Subversive Lace and Radical Knitting exhibit.  The Education Curator will be the speaker for our October program, and in January the Knit Together will be a private tour
•    The meeting closed at 8:00 pm after show and share
