CACTUS NEEDLES KNITTING GUILD MEETING MINUTES FOR 2/4/13

The meeting was called to order by Dawn Goetz, President at 6:50 p.m.
MEMBERSHIP: No new members present. There was a guest, Leah (she did not offer her last name) she learned of the guild from pamphlets at a local yarn shop. Lesley Fry updated the guild on Penny Celmins, who recently had a knee replacement done. She is presently having rehab done and can be contacted at Advanced Healthcare of Scottsdale, RM 205, 9846 N 95th St., Scottsdale, AZ 85258. Harriet will send out an e-mail with Penny’s contact information for members not in attendance tonight.
SECRETARY’S REPORT: Georgia Green made me aware of a correction to last month’s meeting – her name was left off of instructors for the cast on program. The correction has been made. Motion to pass made by Francine Ebersman and seconded by Sandy Grunow. I then read a card from Jackie Awerman in thanks in acknowledgement of her Cactus Needles Knitting Guild Distinguished Services Award for 2013.
Altruistic reports: Velvet Dishon reported that next month she will be dispensing yarn for the next altruistic project. Donna Sherrill mentioned about the Foster Kids Scarf project from Red Heart. Velvet will research and report at next month’s meeting. Fiber Factory in Mesa is also involved with this project. Judy Agee was not present and Francine offered to take any completed Project Linus blankets and return them to Judy.
Treasurer’s report: Cynthia Peplinski was not present – no current balance was made available.
Strategic Planning report: JoAnn Mullen reported that she has had notecards w/envelopes printed at a nominal fee of the Centennial Blanket and she brought several packs to the meeting to sell - $5.00 for eight cards. She will bring them to the March meeting as well. She thanked Sandy Grunow for all her help as well as Lance for the photography of the blanket.
Centennial Blanket: Joanne Mullen reported – the Arizona Centennial Museum offered to store the blanket, but not permanently display it. Other locations being looked into are the Wells Fargo Museum, Burton Barr Library and she will also contact the Arizona Centennial organization for suggestions to permanently display it.
Knit Together: Martie Warden will have the next Knit Together at her home on Sunday, February 24, 2013 from 1:00 -4:00. The knit together will have a “baseball” theme to it.
Tucson Handweavers and Spinners Guild: will be having a luncheon on 3/2/13. Information is in the CNKG current newsletter. Pat Wood contacted CNKG regarding the event and it will be held at the Doubletree Resort in Tucson and the cost is $40.00. If you are interested in attending and want to carpool – please let Dawn know so that she can set up communication.
Stitch n Pitch: CNKG will again have a booth at this event on Saturday, April 13, 2013. The game will start at 5:10 p.m. vs the LA Dodgers. Anyone interested in helping out at the booth, please let Dawn know. Details regarding the event will be forthcoming.
PROGRAM: Martie introduced this evening’s program of the annual Yarn Swap.
SHOW AND SHARE: Members shared their current projects as well as completed ones.
