The meeting was called to order by Dawn Goetz, President at 6:30 p.m.
MEMBERSHIP: Happy birthday wishes to Jackie Taylor, Joanna Irvine and Mali Pistener. No guests attending and Pat Dowd was our newest member present.
SECRETARY’S REPORT: No changes were made to the November 2012 meeting minutes and a motion to pass was made by Francine Ebersman and seconded by Harriet Lawrence.
Altruistic reports: Velvet Dishon reported that a shipment of hand knitted items will be sent to World Vision for Hurricane Sandy victims. She will be combining the shipment with the Desert Purl Knitting Guild.
Treasurer’s report: Cynthia Peplinski reported the current balance for the guild is $4,511.60
Strategic Planning report: Francine Ebersman reported that the Cactus Needles Knitting Guild Distinguished Services Award for 2013 will be presented to Jackie Awerman. This will be mailed out to her along with a gift card.
Centennial Blanket: Joanne Mullen reported – she is looking into having note cards created with a photo of the Centennial Blanket on it. She has spoken with a representative from Kinko’s/Fed Ex regarding printing of the note cards. After asking if any of the members would be interesting in purchasing a set of six (6) cards/envelopes – many are. She will check with a couple of other printing companies including Vistaprint on prices. The blanket was recently displayed at Tempe Yarn and Fiber at the December Fiber Artists Day.
Knit Together: Francine and Joann will be hosting the January 2013 knit together at Francine’s house on Sunday, January 20, 2013. Further information is located on the website under “Latest News”.
NEW BUSINESS: Carole Byrne reported that Tempe Yarn and Fiber has been invited by the City of Tempe to “yarn bomb” the courtyard of the Community Services Complex on Saturday, January 26 @ 1:00. The program is called “Free the Needles”. Tempe Yarn and Fiber is in need of volunteers and yarn donations. Carole will be happy to pick up any donations you may have and return them to Tempe Yarn and Fiber. Please check the membership directory for her contact info. And for further information about the “yarn bombing” go to Tempe Yarn and Fiber’s website, www.tempeyarn.com.
Also, Velvet mentioned about the spinning guild will be hosting an event at Arcosanti on Saturday, January 26. A daylong event that includes lunch for $9.00.
PROGRAM: Martie introduced this evening’s program of different ways of casting on. The techniques being taught are found in both “Cast On Bind Off” – Cap Sease and” Cast On Bind Off: 54 Step-by-Step Methods” – Leslie Ann Bestor. Martie, Donna, Betty J and Betty S taught members the different ways of doing a casting on.
Programs for 2013 (subject to change): February – Yarn Swap, March – knitting with beads.
SHOW AND SHARE: Members shared their current projects as well as completed ones.
