The meeting was called to order by Dawn Goetz, President at 6:30 p.m.
MEMBERSHIP: Happy birthday wishes to Lonnie Zbiegien, June Fessenden, Penny Celmins, Velvet Dishon and Jennifer Wujcik. Candy Odenwald was visiting as a guest of June Fessenden. No new members were present.
SECRETARY’S REPORT: No changes were made to the October 2012 meeting minutes and a motion to pass was made by Harriet Lawrence and seconded by Barb Hahn.
Altruistic reports: Velvet asked for volunteers to piece together blankets for Project Linus. She is also in need of someone to deliver the Veteran’s scarves to the VA Hospital. Judie Agee mentioned that she has a neighbor that goes to VA Hospital weekly and Judie will ask her neighbor if they can take the scarves with them. Velvet asked if the guild would like to add an additional altruistic project – The Red Scarf Project for foster kids leaving home for college. And the West Valley now has a new knitting guild – the Desert Purls Knitting Guild, currently with 15 members.
Treasurer’s report: Cynthia reported the current balance for the guild is $4,083.88. The Strategic Planning balance is $1,845.28 and the balance for Altruistic is $274.01.
Centennial Blanket: Joanne Mullen reported – She spoke to a representative of TKGA at Stitches East recently and they were very appreciative of the work that had gone into the making/designing of the blanket. Joanne received a certificate from the Arizona Centennial Commission for the guild’s involvement in this year’s celebration. The commission also needs an exit report from the guild which will be done after the blanket has been framed and found a permanent home.
June Whisel took the blanket to the Tucson knitting guild last month to share.
Knit Together: Harriet Lawrence will have the November knit together at her home on Saturday, November 17, 2012 from 1:00-5:00.
Holiday Party: Will be on Monday, December 3, 2012 at Romano’s Macaroni Grill in Scottsdale. Information regarding the party and the altruistic contest are on the guild’s website. At last month’s meeting, Donna Sherrill provided information for mitten patterns, if you have any questions or would like the website links that Donna provided, please e-mail her. Francine Ebersman is accepting reservations for the party till 11/26/12. Please e-mail her with any questions regarding the party. Terese Knapick, Coordinator of the NE Valley Project Linus will also be attending the holiday party.
NEW BUSINESS: Dawn mentioned that Tempe Yarn and Fiber were having their annual Fiber Community day featuring local artists and guilds on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at the store from 12:00 -5:00. Dawn asked for anyone who would like to volunteer to man the table during that time. The Centennial Blanket will also be displayed.
PROGRAM: Martie introduced this evening’s program of different ways of making buttonholes. The techniques being used are found in “Knitters Book of Finishing Techniques” by Nancie Wiseman. Martie, Lesley, Regina and Dawn taught members the different ways of doing a buttonhole.
Programs for 2013 (subject to change): January – Casting on, February – Knitting with beads, March – yarn swap – please send suggestions of for the yarn swap to Martie.
