Altruistic –Cathrine McClure: Project Linus needs larger blankets for older children – about 3’ x 5’. We collect them all year and bring them to the Holiday Party. Give completed blankets to Cathrine.
Special Olympics scarves are being collected all year and are due by the January 2012 meeting.
We are always collecting sweaters, hats, scarves & mittens for the Navaho children. They need to be given to Cathrine by the end of October.
Any questions, please email Cathrine.
Treasurer’s Report – Lisa Spaich: Lisa reported that the current balance in our account is $3,343.59.
REMINDER TO COMMITTEES: Since we are beginning a new fiscal year, Lisa reminded all committees to please
(1) Get their receipts from the year just ended to her asap; and
(2) Get your budget for the new fiscal year to her by August. We will submit the new budget to the membership for approval in September.
Host your own knitting event -- Harriet is hosting a knitting event on Wednesday, July 27 at 4:30pm at 5th and Wine, 7051 E. 5th Avenue in downtown Scottsdale. During happy hour, wine is just $5 per glass, and she will be treating everyone to one glass of wine. 5th & Wine has great happy hour appetizers, or you can have a regular dinner. They have reserved the Living Room for us. If you’re working, get there when you can.
Barb announced that we have been approved for a grant from the Arizona Historical Advisory Commission for our afghan project. We will be reimbursed for our expenses
Harriet will be maintaining the calendar and handling all communications. Please direct all requests for postings, etc. to her. If you want something listed on the calendar, please make sure it is in a format that can be cut and pasted onto the calendar.
Judie Agee announced that she has been asked to be the National Assistant for Project Linus for teaching crocheting and knitting. She will be going to the conference next week and will be teaching how to do a communal blanket. As a test, three people sat with her and worked on a blanket she had started to make sure that she was comfortable with the procedure.
Program -- Bring your Oldest Knitting Project
A number of people brought an unfinished project to talk about – some old and some not so old. We all had different reasons as to why a project never got finished. Maybe now that we have unearthed it, we’ll get it done.
Show and Share followed the meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:45.
Harriet Lawrence, Secretary
