The meeting was called to order at 6:35pm by Barb Hahn. October is CNKG’s birthday and we all enjoyed birthday cake. Barb talked about meeting etiquette. She asked that we please allow the person speaking to finish their committee report or program before asking questions. It can be confusing to the person speaking.
Martie welcomed three new members: Sue Garber, Jeanne Gelfand and Chino Suzuki. We acknowledged three October birthdays: Susan Albadwi, Dawn Goetz and June Whisel.
Secretary’s Report
Francine made a motion, seconded by Cara, to approve the minutes as posted to the guild website.
Committee/Chair Reports
Altruistic – Cathrine McClure – If you have something for the Navajo project and want to get it in before the October deadline, email Cathrine and she’ll figure out how to get it. If you miss the October deadline, you can continue to knit for the Navajo project for next year. They need all warm articles – ponchos, hats, mittens, scarves, etc. Preferably acrylic or acrylic/wool blends should be used. If you use wool it should be pre-washed and the content should be noted.
We continue to collect for Esperanza.   Scarves for veterans are due before Veterans’ Day. Please check the website for all altruistic projects. Cara explained how to find them on the website.
Treasurer’s Report – Lisa Spaich – We have 42 members and a balance of $2,950.63 in the bank.
Web Editor – Cara Summerfield – The next newsletter will be published on October 17. Please send articles to Cara by October 15. The newsletter will be published every other month.
Strategic Planning – Francine Ebersman -- February, 2012, is Arizona’s centennial anniversary. If you’re interested in helping create our centennial blanket, contact Liz Rees or Joann Mullen. Francine also talked about the plan to create an award that would recognize someone in the Guild who has made a significant contribution to the knitting community or the Guild. More information will follow.
Old Business
Barb has posted the “Host Your Own Knitting Event” schedule on our website. October is still open if anyone would like to plan an event.
New Business
Judie Agee mentioned the Blanket Bee for Project Linus to be held in Fountain Hills on Saturday, October 23. Please let her know if you are going since lunch will be served.
Dawn is scheduling a program on yarn dying for January with Terry Neal from Tempe Yarn and Fiber.
Martie Warden discussed the holiday party and scarf challenge to be held on December 6. Two flyers were passed out – one for the holiday party and one for the scarf contest. Please fill out the RSVP and return it to Francine with your check by November 30. Martie reviewed the instructions for the scarf challenge. The scarves will be donated to Esperanza. Wool or wool blends are preferred. Both flyers will be uploaded to the website.  Please refer to them for complete information.
Francine mentioned that traditionally the holiday party is used to collect blankets for the Linus Project, so do bring them if you have any.
Show and share concluded the meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:00pm.
