Meeting – June 7, 2010
The meeting was called to order at 6:41 p.m., and Cara greeted the attendees.
June wished happy birthday everyone with a June birthday. Martie mentioned there was a new member, Jennifer Bauman, who stopped by, but was unable to stay for the meeting. Guest, Pam Collins (Sandy Grunow’s sister) from New Zealand was welcomed.
There was a motion by Francine which was seconded by Judie to approve the minutes as posted to the guild website.
Velvet announced the new project of helmet liners which will be collected at the July and August meetings. There were two choices for organizations, Packages from Home which is an organization which sends care packages to soldiers, and Esperanca. Yarn and patterns were passed out.
Back-to-school distribution is in July, and there are still openings for volunteers. Check the website for additional information.
Esperanca has someone going to Bolivia – please bring completed items to the July meeting.
Martie, standing in for Betty told the membership about sales, specials, and happenings at various local yarn shops.
Phoenix Knits was unhappy that no one from the guild came in last month. The Yarn Place has wool tweed sock yarn for $5.00 per skein, good prices on Paragon worsted and Angel 100% merino wool. Knitting in Scottsdale started a free help line from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. They are still promoting Cotton Fine yarn at $24.95/cone. The Fiber Factory has a lot of colorful smooth soft yarn for summer. They also now stock Cascade 128. Tempe Yarn and Fiber has moved into their new location which is directly next door to their old location – check their website for pictures of the new space. Knit Happens is starting a three-tier sale – purchase $50 to $100 get 10% discount; $100 - $200 get a 15% discount; and over $200 get a 25% discount – mention the password “knitheadz” to get the discount. Jessica Knits features different items on sale; sale items will change regularly – check their website for featured items. Arizona Knitting and Needlework has beautiful patterns and lots of classes. Sally’s Knits has 5 shelves of discontinued yarns at $2.00/sk and lots of summer yarns in stock. Bonnie’s still has their bags of yarn at 50% off, also 32 bins of yarn at 40% off.
Lisa announced there have already been 4 or 5 members who have paid dues for the new fiscal year, and that there is $2,789.32 in the bank.
The June knit together will be hosted by Judie on the 26th at Mary Coyle’s Ice Cream Parlor.
The July meeting will be held on the 12th.
Barb presented Cara with a gift card to Tempe Yarn and Fiber in recognition and appreciation of Cara’s work as guild president.
Barb instructed the members on knitting swirly scarves.
