Cactus Needles Knitting Guild
Meeting – May 3, 2010
The meeting was called to order at 6:33 p.m., and Cara greeted the attendees.
Martie wished happy birthday everyone with a May birthdays.
There was a motion by Donna which was seconded by Lisa to approve the minutes as posted to the guild website.
There was yarn made available to the members for skinny scarves for back-to-school. The June meeting will be the deadline for turning in back-to-school projects.
The patterns passed out at the April meeting had errors – new handouts were available.
Betty told the membership about sales, specials, and happenings at various local yarn shops.
The Yarn Place has 100% merino lace weight. Knitting in Scottsdale is having a trunk show featuring Brown Sheep yarns. The Fiber Factory has a lot of cotton and cotton blends. They also have happy hour, social knitting and crochet. Tempe Yarn and Fiber’s has a referral program and will be holding drawings for $25 gift certificates. Their annual retreat will be in July. They are also moving to a new space – next door to their current location. Knit Happens will be having a sock knitalong and their summer class schedule will be out soon. They have sale tables in the back with yarns up to 50% off. Jessica Knits has organic cotton. Also check their website for featured sale items. Arizona Knitting and Needlework is offering 50% off selected items in May. Sally’s Knits has 5 shelves of discounted yarns. Bonnie’s has all their summer yarns in stock. Phoenix Knits is offering 50% off selected items in May. Michael’s has senior citizen discounts on Wednesdays.
Lisa noted there is $2,717.32 in the bank. One member has already paid dues for the 2010-2011 year.
Cara announced there will not be another retreat in June. Regina will host a knit together in June.
JoAnne mentioned that her knit together in April was actually co-hosted by Francine.
Regina will be presenting the program at the June meeting – two forms of patch pockets. She handed out instructions for homework to be completed prior to the meeting.
The program was a combined knit together for back-to-school skinny scarves, and show and share.
Two blankets completed from the holiday square winners groups were shown.
The possibility of making pillows from orphan squares was discussed.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:23 p.m.
