Committee/Chair Reports

Velvet passed out patterns for scarves, and yarn for back-to-school knitting.

Back-to School set-up for distribution is July 10th.  Distribution is July 12th – 16th and they need volunteers to help – a sign-up sheet was passed around.  Velvet also encouraged everyone to take part in the people’s choice poll and vote for the Back-to-School clothing drive to win a people’s choice award.   Check out Channel 8 (PBS) for more details.

Valley Events

Betty told the membership about sales, specials, and happenings at various local yarn shops.

The Yarn Place has bags of bulky yarn on sale – 4 skeins for $8.00.  Knitting in Scottsdale is having a Brown Sheep trunk show, and is offering cones of yarn with a free pattern for $24.95.  Tempe Yarn & Fiber is having a retreat in July at the Four Points Sheraton in Tempe.  The Fiber Factory has new spinning fiber and now carries Noro yarns.  Knit Happens has lots of new yarn for spring, and a sale table in the back of the store.  Jessica Knits has bags of multiple balls on sale.  Bonnie’s has new spring and summer yarns.  Arizona Knit and Needlepoint has a lot of classes to offer.  Sally’s has a clearance corner with prices as low as $2/skein.

Lisa noted there have been no transactions since January.

Old Business

April’s knit together is April 30th and will be hosted by Jo-Ann, with Francine’s assistance.  Please RSVP by the 27th – starting time will be between 4:00-4:30 – watch your e-mail for more information.

Cara gave an update on the retreat, and showed slides of everyone having a great time.  The attendees visited Studio 3 in Prescott and A Good Yarn.  They also met up with several Prescott knitters at a local coffee shop.

New Business

Cara discussed the possibility of another retreat for guild members – possibly the last weekend in June.  If anyone has any suggestions for a workshop they would like at the retreat, please let her know.

Francine presented the officer slate to be voted on:  President – Barb Hahn; Vice President – Dawn Goetz; Secretary – Harriet Lawrence; Treasurer – Lisa Spaich.

She also discussed several recommendations of the nominating committee, including :

a)     Having mentors available to newer members, officers and committee chairs.

b)     Convening a strategic planning/advisory committee.

The members were asked if there were any nominations from the floor for officer positions.  There being none, Marsha made a motion to accept the slate as presented, the motion was seconded by Fran.  Slate accepted.

Cathrine took everyone on a tour of Ravelry, which is a great on-line tool for knitters, crocheters, and spinners.    She also noted that KnitPicks has an on-line community.

Show and share concluded the meeting which was adjourned at 8:40 p.m.
