Membership

Martie introduced our guest Sharon Zolno, who learned about the guild on-line and is interested in joining.  Welcome Sharon!  Martie also wished happy birthday to Jackie and Judy who have March birthdays.

Secretary’s Report

There was a motion by Francine which was seconded by Donna to approve the minutes as posted to the guild website.

Committee/Chair Reports

Altruistic

The yarn that was passed out to members at the February meeting was swapped out for another yarn that will work better for the pattern.   Regina reminded everyone to keep knitting Back-to-School hats and scarves – distribution is in July.  Esperanca projects are also welcome.

Valley Events

Betty told the membership about sales, specials, and happenings at various local yarn shops.

The Yarn Place has 4 skein bags of wool blend yarns on sale for $8.  Knitting in Scottsdale still has 25% off all yarn, and raffle drawings every Saturday.  Tempe Yarn and Fiber’s charitable knitting project for March is Hospice of the Valley.  They also have “brown bag” specials.  Knit Happens will be having a big sale in 2 to 3 weeks – look for an e-mail, if you are on their list.  Jessica Knits has carries a large selection of Louisa Harding yarns, and has specials on pre-packaged bags of yarn.  Arizona Knitting and Needlework is offering a lot of classes.  Sally’s Knits has a clearance corner with yarns priced as low as $2/skein.  Bonnie’s has Mountain Colors afghan kits at 20% off, and 50% of bag sale.  They also have classes and many spring yarns arriving.  Michael’s offers 10% off for seniors every Tuesday.

Old Business

Francine thanked the many volunteers for the nominating committee.  The committee members who will be presenting the slate in April are Francine, Donna, and Joanne.  The slate will consist of the elected officers:  President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.  Committee chairs are appointed by the president.  Francine also handed out a list of current members and asked the attendees to indicate who they feel would be interested in and suitable for any position within the guild.

Cara announced the dates for the retreat have changed.  It will now be held March 19 – 22nd.  Please RSVP to Cara if you plan to attend the retreat.

Georgia handed out instructions for binding off double knitting, and answered questions from the members.

New Business

There is a blanket bee in Fountain Hills this Saturday.  It may be Judie’s last event as Project Linus coordinator, in addition, there will be a large yarn lottery held between 10:15 and 11:30 – this is a great opportunity to acquire yarn for the guild’s altruistic projects.  Members are also invited to join the celebration of Jackie’s birthday at lunch at the Eagle Mountain Country Club at 1:00 Saturday.  Please RSVP to Francine.

Program

Martie led the ‘get to know you’ activity for the members.

Show and share concluded the meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:16 p.m.
