Cactus Needles Knitting Guild
Board Meeting – February 16, 2009

Attendees:
Cara Summerfield - President
Barb Hahn – Vice President
Fran Frazin – Treasurer
Larry Frazin – Treasurer
Francine Ebersman – Altruistic Committee
Mary Schirtzinger – Membership Committee

The meeting was called to order at 6:30 by Cara.  The purpose of the meeting was to touch base since the committee hasn’t met in a while.

In March the Nominating Committee will be formed to present their recommendations for officers for the upcoming year.  Francine will chair the committee.  Fran mentioned that it might be a good idea to choose a new treasurer.  Mary also mentioned that she would like to take a year off.  Francine mentioned that committee members were appointed by the president.  There are a lot of new members, and it would be a good idea to get them involved.

Barb went over upcoming programs.  In March, Susan Kirsch from the Back to School program, along with her mother, will be speaking.  In April, Regina will be presenting a program on multi-directional knitting.  In May, Sandy McDonald will be presenting a program on finishing.  In June, a friend of Bev Walker’s, Michelle Sbraga, will be presenting a program on weaving.  There are also some plans to have a program on crocheting, double knitting, cables and bobbles, but that has not yet been worked out.

Francine covered the altruistic projects.  The Guild will continue to support Project Linus with a commitment of one blanket per month.  Other programs that the Guild will support are Back to School, Esperanca, and the Veteran’s project in the fall.  The Special Olympics Project was a huge success.  There was a need for 5,000 scarves; they received 55,000.

Since Bev Walker was unable to attend, Cara discussed Shop Talk.  The Shop Hop is on the website.  For those participating, keep an eye out to make sure that the various shops have our rack cards on display.  Bev would like to put various shop sales on the website.  The Tucson Guild charges for advertisement on their website, so that is a possibility that we can look into.

Cara also covered the website.  She will be updating the website with patterns when her schedule permits.  In addition, she would like to share more of the features of the website with the membership, perhaps get a projector and demonstrate one feature a month.

Cara is also still working on the tape measures for new members.  She’s run into some snags and is hoping to get that worked out shortly.  The budget was limited to $100.  The board may want to look at this again in June when planning the next fiscal budget and consider getting note pads for new members again.

It was unanimously decided to leave the dues at the same rate because of the economy.

Knit-Ins and Upcoming Events have fallen by the wayside.  Next year, there should be more focus on encouraging members to host a Knit-In.  Barb is hosting the March Knit-In, and Cara is hosting in April.  May and June are still open.  Cara would like to see a coordinator appointed for this purpose next year to develop more interest, especially for individuals who have not yet hosted one.  We should also placing  more emphasis on Blanket Bees and other Valley events, encouraging members to participate.

The meeting was adjourned.
