Cactus Needles Knitting Guild
Meeting Minutes 2/2/2009

•    The meeting was called to order at 6:40 pm
•    Mary, Sandi, and Barb were absent, from the chairs
•    Minutes were posted on-line; the minutes were passed as posted.
•    Cara greeted the membership, welcomed guests.
•    Francine and JoAnn conducted the altruistic update
      o    Back to school knitting
          •    We are going to focus on caps for Boys & skinny scarves for Girls for the back to school collection
      o    New Project Linus blanket
          •    The blanket is to be worked in squares, squares must be turned in by April’s meeting so that they may be joined in time for the Turquoise and Brown blanket challenge
      o    Log Cabin blankets are due at the March meeting
•    Bev conducted the Valley Events schedule
     o    Knit Happens – 2/15 will have a trunk show
     o    The Fiber Factory is hosting a Friday Night out in Downtown Mesa, on 2/13 “Sock –a-la-cart” - yarn is 20% off if you buy the book
      o    Tempe Yarn & Fiber - Schaffer Yarn is arriving, 2/14 there will be a yarn tasting, mystery scarf knit along, and trunk shows
      o    The Shop Hop –Passports were passed out, there are 20 shops participating, you have 3 months to stamp your passports.  Gift certificates are the prizes.
•    Lori Logan from Esparanza, a 40 year old non-profit that supports projects in Bolivia, Mozambique, Nogales, Nicaragua, and also locally at Golden Gate in Phoenix spoke.  Cactus Needles has been supporting the group with knitted items such as sweaters, and baby items.
•    Cindy Hines introduced a second mini-program.  Cindy showed the best way to do yarn harvesting, aka recycling.  Cindy gave step-by-step instructions on how to deconstruct old sweaters, what to look for in seams, and other useful tips.
•    Show and share ending the meeting.
•    The meeting adjourned at 7:55 pm.
